Nothing influences a human mind as music. It is the ultimate form of art that connects people from all parts of the globe. Different people groove and listen to different music genres. The Indian music scene also shows and carries many genres along, and while most are still humming the stereotypic 'bollywood' tunes, there is an increasing number of youngsters drifting towards more unconventional genres. One such music genre is 'Metal'. Metal music, according to different essence of music that it carries, can be further sub-divided in to many sub-genres like thrash, heavy, black, progressive, Nu, gothic, doom, death, suicidal and many more.

Today, in India, there are way more than thousand metal bands playing. The listeners and metal-heads that are ever ready to encourage these hard-riffing bands are also plenty. Most of these bands are highly talented and sincerely dedicated towards their music. The metal craze in our nation is way more than what most people assume. The sincerity of these metal-heads, is often witnessed when a not-so-well promoted gig of an underground metal band, turns out into a yet another memorable mosh-pit. Inspite of such loyal and true metal-heads in support, many talented metal bands fall out, feeling the pinch of financial survival in this cunning money-dreaming world.

What makes the survival issue so critical, is the fact that most of the Indian metal bands struggle big time to make good and substantial money in our country. The factors for this are plenty and the solutions, as always, are minimal. Most metal bands shell out serious funds from their pockets to make an album, which eventually is bought only by their loyal fans and the bands are often left gasping for profits. The support and encouragement from the big music companies to these exploding bands is miserly, a fact reflected by its relatively poor promotions. What these music companies fail to realise is the possibility of an market for metal music, co-existing with conventional 'bollywood' tunes. And although many would write this off, it is only because they have never been to a true metal gig.

The serious talent running through many metal bands is been successfully tapped to get in the moolah in most nations. In fact, the downpour of our metal-heads for some well-organized and greedily promoted international metal gigs like Iron Maiden, Sepultura and Amon Amarth, proves that the market for metal music is as real as it gets.

The situation is getting serious, and the bands realize this. However the fact remains, they might not give these talented musicians what they deserve, but they are certainly not capable of depriving the bands of their ultimate wealth, the music.
