As soon as Valentines day is round the corner, you will find people all rushing to get gifts for their loved ones. Be it flowers, chocolates, cards or just poems; people tend to get obsessed about celebrating Valentines day. For those who are committed, Valentines day is like an opportunity to celebrate their love. While for those who are single, most of them join in the scavenger hunt for a date for Valentines day, so that even they could participate in the sharing of love. Is Valentines day the only day to show love to your loved ones? Shouldn't love be expressed all year round?

Today Valentines day is become more like a trend than a day of celebration. People think it's cool to celebrate Valentines day, so even if they don't bother for each other all year round, they don't miss Valentines day. Even if they don't really mean all those words written on Valentines day e-cards they give it anyway, because it is a day that they are 'supposed' to express love. Often you find people who find dates only because they don't want to feel like losers on this so-called 'day of love'. Valentines day has turned into a day for youngsters to party, for elders to give out gifts as a formality and for shopkeepers to make some money. Everyone seems to be so involved in their own selfish motives, that they forget that love is supposed to be celebrated all year round and not just confined to one single day. Today Valentines day is so commercialized, that a person who doesn't celebrate this day is very easily perceived as boring. Gifts are mandatory on Valentines day, so it doesn't even matter if a person cannot afford it. Valentines day compels love to be measured by the size of a person's wallet, rather than concentrating on their heart. Why express your love only on Valentines day? Isn't just the right person and the perfect moment more than enough to express your love for them?

Even after saying all of the above, Valentines day can't be a day that we can just ignore. Valentines day is a day when love won against hate, so it surely is a day to be cherished. However, merely confining love to Valentines day is not fair. We should not forget Valentines day is one day of love and not the other way round. Make sure you remember this always.
